  • *Optional - use half the meat and add in 1 15 oz can of beans

  • 1 onion, diced

  • 6 cloves of garlic, minced

  • 1 28 oz can crushed tomatoes

  • 2 6 oz cans of tomato paste

  • 1 15 oz can tomato sauce

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1/4 cup of sugar OR honey

  • 1 and 1/2 tsp dried basil

  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp pepper

  • 5 tbsp parsley

  • 1 15oz tub ricotta cheese

  • 1 egg

  • 3 tbsp parmesan + more to taste

  • Mozzarella to taste

  • Cheddar to taste

  • 1 box of oven ready lasagna noodles

Instructions

  1. Brown the meat and beans in a pan on medium heat. Add in the onions and cook until the meat is no longer pink

  2. Remove the meat and grease from the pan and add in the garlic. Sauté the garlic until fragrant before adding back in the meat mixture.

  3. Cook on low until meat, onions, beans and garlic are caramelized

  4. Add in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce and water and stir

  5. Mix in the sugar, basil, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper and 3 tbsp of parsley. Cover and simmer for 60 min

  6. While mixture is simmering, make the ricotta mixture by stirring together the ricotta, egg, 3 tbsp of parmesan and 2 tbsp of parsley. Set aside

  7. To assemble, add a little bit of the sauce to a 9x13 dish and place noodles on top, covering the bottom of the pan. Layer the lasagna by adding the sauce, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, cheddar and parmesan cheese. Repeat this layering process ending with the sauce and cheeses as your top layer

  8. Bake at 375 F for 30 min covered and then another 30 min uncovered
